Brett is a founder of Select Property Invest (SPI), an online search business providing a vast database of information for a range of specialist property investments across Australia. SPI enables members to efficiently identify and monitor specialist property (such as mortgagee sales; deceased estates; sites with develop approvals, etc.).
In October 2011 Brett was appointed by Bain & Co as a senior advisor. This is a part time role designed to provide practical input and specialist financial services advice to the firm's global network.
March 2010 Brett became an Advisory Board Director of Gao Fu Limited, a financial services firm based in China. Gao Fu provides carefully selected investment/wealth management-related products and financial planning services to the retail (HNW) and wholesale market in China.
Jan 2010 - Mar 2011 Brett was Executive Chairman of WA Capital Group, providing management of Australian and global equity portfolios. WACG was sold in March 2011 and Brett stepped down from the Board in July.
Brett had been President and CEO of Asia Pacific at Fidelity Investments (FIL) from 1997 - 2009. He was a member of FIL’s Global Operating Committee and served as a director of FIL, the international holding company, and numerous Fidelity companies and fund boards.
Brett joined FIL in 1994 as Chief Legal Officer and Corporate Secretary and in 1995 he was appointed Head of Fidelity's International’s headquarters. In 1997, Brett relocated to HK to lead the Asia Pacific region. In 2003 he relocated to Tokyo where he remained responsible for all of FIL’s asset management and venture capital activities across the Asia Pacific region. He has been based in Sydney since 2008.

Brett has a law degree and was admitted as a barrister and solicitor of the High Court of New Zealand, and also admitted as a solicitor in the Supreme Court of England and Wales.
